C.M. Bergmann

As a young man, Charles M.Bergmann emigrated to America and came back to Waltershausen in 1877. He worked in several doll factories then in 1888 he founded his own small doll factory with only 2 workers in Waltershausen, Thüringia, Germany, by 1909 he added a factory in Friedrichroda, Germany. In 1914 he was already employing 150 workers and continued producing dolls until they went bankrupt in 1931.
Bergmann dolls came in sizes from 13" to 34" tall, with composition ball jointed bodies and a bisque socket head or a bisque shoulder head and kid body, C.M. Bergmann manufactured the composition ball jointed bodies and assembled their dolls using heads obtained from Alt, Beck & Gottschalck, Armand Marseille William Gobel, Simon & Halbig and maybe others.
C.M. Bergmann also made papier mache dolls, kid leather bodied dolls, character baby dolls.  
Dolls were distributed in the United States by Louis Wolf & Company.
